1860's sheer print dress

From the seller:

Ultimate romantic Civil War period sheer wool challis fancy gown, a rare fragile survivor recently deaccessioned from Vermont institute. Scoop neckline trimmed with the rose printed trim, billowy ruched bell sleeves trimmed out in blue silk edging carefully hand sewn on, this same edging hand sewn on the box pleat trim down the front of skirt. Bodice lined in cotton with small stays, back hook and eye closure, these look all original, the draw string track at neckline might have been the museum's conservation efforts, very successful. Very full skirt lined in scarcenet, robin's egg blue lattice design fabric with swags and panels of the roseprint, bow and streamer at the back. In as found condition! not perfect, wear and discoloration underarms, and scattered breaks to fragile outer fabric, the net lining keeping it fairly stable. Displays nicely, uncleaned! age and storage related yellowing. Still So pretty! Chest measures approx. 32", waist 22", length in front 56" in back 63".

I have lot's more 19thc gowns and accessories coming up!!

From Me:

Very late Civil War, if that. It is mid 1860's based upon the waistline and the elliptical hoop shaped skirt. Personally, I think it looks like someone's grandma's kitchen curtains.
